Rupaka tala
A 6-beat Carnatic tala, often felt in three
XClapWave
2ClapTapTapTap
One cycle, one beat per quarter note (3/4), looping on whole bars. Free to use in your releases, royalty-free.
How to count it
- Clap on the first beat of each section.
- Tap your fingers in turn (little, ring, middle) for the counts after a clap.
- Wave the hand, palm up, where the section has one.
Carnatic talas are kept with the hand like this. Press Play and count along; the mridangam pattern is up to the player.
Good to know
- Six beats: a drutam (clap, wave) and then a laghu (a clap and three finger counts).
- Many musicians feel it in three, and some traditions count it that way.
Taals are new on RāgāKit. Spotted a mistake? Corrections from musicians are very welcome in the feedback box below.
