This license covers the MIDI files and audio (WAV) you download from RāgāKit (ragakit.com and the RāgāKit app), called "the files" below. It is granted automatically and free of charge when you download a file. No account or sign-up is needed.
In short
- Yes: use the files in your own music, commercially, royalty-free, forever. No credit needed.
- Yes: change them however you like, and release the music you make with them.
- No: don't resell, give away or republish the files themselves, or put them in a sample, loop or MIDI pack.
What you can do
You may use, edit, arrange, record, perform and combine the files into your own musical works ("your music"), and distribute, sell, stream, broadcast and synchronize your music anywhere and in any medium, including releases, streaming, YouTube and social media, podcasts, film, TV, games, apps and advertising. There are no royalties, fees or reporting. The license is worldwide, non-exclusive and perpetual. Attribution is not required, though a mention of RāgāKit is always appreciated.
If a melody, chord progression, rhythm or phrase from RāgāKit ends up in a song you release, the song is yours. RāgāKit claims no ownership of, and no share in, your music.
What you can't do
- Resell, license, give away or share the files themselves, as they are or lightly changed, on their own or as part of a sample, loop, MIDI or preset pack, library or collection.
- Upload the files to a sample, loop or MIDI marketplace or file-sharing service.
- Use the files, or large sets of them, to build a product or service that competes with RāgāKit, or to train a machine-learning model that generates music or MIDI.
- Claim that you created RāgāKit's files, or register them (on their own) with a content-ID or copyright system. Your finished music can be registered as normal.
Sharing a project file (for example a DAW session) with your collaborators, band, mix engineer or label so they can work on your music is fine.
Ragas, taals and traditional music
Ragas and taals are traditional frameworks of Indian classical and folk music. They belong to no one, and RāgāKit does not claim ownership of them, of their scales, phrases (such as a raga's pakad) or rhythm cycles. Anyone may use traditional material freely, with or without RāgāKit. This license covers RāgāKit's own files (the particular MIDI and audio it generates, and its recordings and sound design); it does not restrict your use of the traditions themselves. If you build on a specific existing song or composition, that work's own rights still apply.
Drum recordings
The tabla, mridangam and dholak sounds in RāgāKit's audio come from recordings released into the public domain (CC0) by their makers; see The drum sounds. Audio files you download from RāgāKit are covered by this license like any other file.
No warranty
The files are provided "as is". RāgāKit doesn't guarantee that they are error-free, musically accurate, or will work with every DAW, plugin or device. Back up your projects. See the Terms of Use for the full disclaimer and limits of liability.
If this license changes
RāgāKit may update this license for future downloads. Files you have already downloaded stay under the license that applied when you downloaded them, and music you have already made or released is never affected. If you break the limits above, your permission to use the affected files ends, but music you released in good faith before that stays yours.
